Appointment of Aboriginal Trustee, Veronica (Bonny) Barry

The Trustees of the Wiri Yuwiburra Community Benefits Trust (WYCBT) are pleased to announce the appointment of Bonny Barry to the vacant Aboriginal Trustee position. Bonny is a proud Kooma and Bidjara woman from Southwest Queensland. In particular, Bonny is excited about the opportunities that exist in the Trust’s ability to make a real difference in so many lives of the people in our Communities. She said, “I have seen in my work that sometimes a little bit of help can grow opportunities for our people.”

She brings a wealth of rich experience caring for mob and community, much of it in the health sector as a registered nurse, including the last three years working as a nurse navigator for MOBLINK during Covid in South East Queensland. She holds Director positions at the Prince Charles Hospital Foundation, Metro North Hospital and Health Services, and as a nurse for the Institute of Urban Indigenous Health.

Bonny is also the former State MP for Aspley and Assistant Minister for Education, Training and the Arts. She currently sits on the Stronger Grants Committee reviewing community grants in the office of Federal Member for Lilley, Hon Anika Wells MP.

Ronald Saltner, the WYCBT Chair, commented, “We are pleased to welcome Bonny as one of the six Trustees, and her wealth of experience and passion for mob will be a real asset to WYCBT and the lives of the people we support.”

WYCBT aims to develop, support and promote programs and activities to benefit Aboriginal People from the Wiri/Widi, Barada Barna, Yuwiburra and broader Birri Gubba Communities. The Trust has a particular focus on supporting education, representative sports, arts, business and research projects that encourage individuals to maximise their skills, abilities and potential, and to assist social, emotional or economic advancement.
