Rachel Saltner Memorial Team participate in All Blacks Carnival in Townsville, QLD

Ronald Saltner – A memorial team was formed to celebrate the late Rachel Saltner. The team travelled from Cherbourg to Townsville to participate in the Rugby League All Blacks Carnival. Teams from communities, including Cherbourg, Palm Island, Yarrabah and Woorabinda, were in attendance. The team manager submitted a Community Benefits Program – Sporting Team Sponsorship Application to the Trust requesting support for accommodation and travel for both the men’s and women’s teams.

“On behalf of the family, we would like to thank the Wiri Yuwiburra Community Benefits Trust (WYCBT) for their support in honouring Mum, Nan, Sister and Auntie Rachel. Participation in sports for both men and women are the ultimate community connector, some call it the” Modern day corrobboree”, where old friends/mates are seen again, and many new friendships are formed that will continue with our people over years to come, and this also benefits and contributes to our positive physical and mental health. These type of Community Run events assists in overcoming the challenges that our many of our mob in communities face on a daily basis and is one of the reasons why it is essential for us to honour and celebrate our People and Culture, by participating in, supporting, and giving back to these community run sports events.”
